Project description
The long-term goal of the DevVET project is to improve the quality of vocational education in Kenya by promoting collaboration between Kenyan vocational institutions and employers.
The project will create a toolkit for vocational teachers. This toolkit will include a teacher training program aimed at enhancing cooperation with the working life sector and digital learning content, as well as compiling guidelines designed for workplace developers.
The results of the project will be shared with stakeholders in Kenya’s vocational education system, and their use will be promoted in other regions and cities.
The project, implemented by OSAO, is funded by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs through the Youth Employment and Vocational Training funding program. The funding is coordinated by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
Results of the project activities
- Four (4) Kenyan vocational education providers implement 1–2 development projects aimed at improving cooperation with the working life sector and applying new collaboration and teaching methods.
- Four (4) Kenyan vocational teachers/education managers from Kisumu, Kenya, visit OSAO in Oulu to learn about the implementation of Finnish competence-based and work-life-oriented vocational education in practice.
- 20–25 vocational education teachers complete a teacher training program to enhance cooperation with the working life sector.
- These teachers share their experiences with 5–7 colleagues in their institutions and integrate them into ongoing development work in work-based learning.
- Experiences from the teacher training program and development projects are gathered, analyzed, and the lessons learned are compiled into guidelines for those developing work-life cooperation.
- The guidelines will also be available as an online course for all vocational institutions in Kenya.
