The WorldSkills international skills competition will be held in Lyon, France, from 10th to 15th September 2024. Finland will participate with an official national team, comprising 22 competitors and 22 experts.
Among the competitors, two are from the Oulu region: 20-year-old Matias Tiri from Oulu will represent Finland in the car painting skill category, and 22-year-old Veeti Lindroth from Kempele will compete in the landscape gardening skill category. Both Tiri and Lindroth are alumni of Educational Consortium OSAO and are currently working in their respective fields.
Also representing OSAO at the competition is lecturer Keijo Kivioja, who will serve as an expert and judge in the welding skill category.
Team Finland will compete in 20 skill categories in Lyon. Most of the competitors are top-level professionals aged 23 or younger. Training for the competition is done as part of the collaboration between vocational education and the professional field.
WorldSkills Lyon 2024
WorldSkills Lyon 2024 will feature a total of 62 skill categories representing various vocational professions, ranging from practical nurse to welder, and chef to electrician. The competition will host 1,500 competitors from around the world, with 250,000 visitors expected at the Eurexpo Lyon exhibition centre. Team Finland is assembled and sent by Skills Finland, in close cooperation with vocational schools.
Finland’s goal in participating in the WorldSkills competition is to enhance the development of Finnish expertise and to promote the internationalisation of vocational education.
